Take a trip through the mind of “Greg Vaughan” and experience some of the bizarre thoughts put into painting. Greg’s art can best be described as surrealistic Lowbrow with a touch of Kustom Kulture.
We invite you to look at all of the people Greg has met and worked for in the last twenty years of his art journey.
Greg’s journey as an artist started long before he knew he was going to make a living painting and creating art. At the age of 4, he ran to his mother with a drawing he had worked on for hours and said,
“Look, look at my drawing of me Mom.”
His mom replied to the small, penciled dots in the center of the paper, “It’s beautiful, but what is it?
“It’s me! Hiding in a snowbank.”
His mother knew then he would become an artist at some point.
Greg’s first career was as a professional hockey player with the Erie Blades. He decided he needed to get into something more stable and followed the suggestion of his grandfather about becoming a sign painter.
At the age of 19, Greg went to a local sign writer, Fred Jones, and asked for a job. Fred recommended that Greg look at the Butera School of Art, a sign painting and commercial art school in Boston. Greg attended Butera for two years and worked tirelessly at his new craft. While still in school, Greg was asked to paint many high profile projects including gold leafing the Copley Plaza and airbrushing the guitar bar at the Boston Hard Rock Cafe. His talents and desire helped Greg get noticed in the film industry. He worked on many feature films with
a guest spot in “You’ve Got Mail” as a sign writer with Tom Hanks.
After spending time in California working on movie sets, Greg decided to move back to NYC (with some coaxing from Goldie Hawn), who wanted Greg to design and paint her new penthouse as well as work on her film “Out of Towners.”
After a year or so in NYC, and a quick stint working to open the new Islands of Adventure theme park in Florida, Greg decided it was time to head back to his Cape Cod roots and fulfill a 15 year old promise to his mother by opening Vaughan Art.
Vaughan Art has been one of the east coast’s premier sign and air brush studios. Working on race cars, motorcycles, truck lettering, and custom signs. All while creating the outrageous art which has been a mainstay of his business.
